After I had covered yesterday's news about the foiled terrorist plot, there seemed to be quite a decry from the civil liberties groups about current tactics to discover plots to cause death and destruction. All these criticisms stemmed from the accusation that the 4th Amendment is being compromised. Well, let's pull out that dusty piece of parchment called The Constitution and have a look.
Hmmm. I haven't read anything about people's effects being illegally searched nor seized. Has any of that happened to you? Not me. And the current trend of eroding our civil liberties? Many of you will pull out your history books (labeled 1984) and say "it's true! just like in this factual book!"--but I don't see it.
We can't sit idly by and let the islama-fascists push their agenda . Face it, we're a global community and what happens in one part of the world does not have isolated results—it affects all of us. Any move they make to subvert the existence of free people anywhere, measures must be taken to detect that. And as yesterday proves, it has paid off. Because of the brilliant work of government agencies on both sides of the ocean, the tragic deaths of thousands was mitigated.
I think we got lucky this time, I really do, and this ought to demonstrate to the naysayers that the war on terror is quite real.
